'she was still the people's princess'

This after being responsible for her death. Those bastards!

I was watching the documentary on The History Channel - The Princess Diary, and until today I was oblivious of the things that she actually went through. I'm not quiet sure how I feel now. Until now I used to enjoy all those paparazzi shows cos they really didnt mean anything at all. I'm not quiet sure I will anymore. These people do all the things they do well aware of how much it affects a celeb. The least they could have done was to show her some respect. The least! And of Dodi, I'd rather not speak. Chicken?

The documentary ends with a note to the media in general. Every person of the press who'd written on her had blood in their hands. How true. Is the world suddenly becoming a much more difficult place to live in ? A living hell?

CO2

The Department of Energy estimates that in the average home, 40 percent of all electricity used to power home electronics is consumed while the products are turned off. What are you going to do about it???

PixelRing

I wasn't ready for the change. Statcounter kept telling me that my blog was just starting to grow. It said stay! and I left. I hope it isn't too late a move cos this change had to be, sometime or the other.

The Nikon is doing wonders though. Check it out at PixelRing. Most of the site is under construction cos my fellows seem to be busy with work. My guess (or rather hope is that) this one will be a blast.

cure for cancer so cheap?

I don't know about the credibility of this article but here it is. Maybe someday we'll all know.

rickshaw drivers

Don't play with them, you might get it!

I lost count of the number of times I've heard that. True. They have the power and they do demand respect. Their power lies in the fact that they can make a 90 degree turn on the spot. Without moving one inch forward.

On that note here's something you ought to keep in mind if you ever plan to market something.

on Tony Blair

"There is only one government since 1945 that can say all of the following -- more jobs, fewer unemployed, better health and education results, lower crime and economic growth in every quarter. Only one government -- this one."
- Tony Blair

Britain enjoyed its longest economic expansion since it created industrial capitalism two centuries ago. House prices quadrupled. Unemployment fell. Hospital waiting lists shrank, child poverty dropped and school exam results improved.

The capital especially thrived. Newsweek named London the coolest city in the world. The International Olympic Committee awarded it the 2012 games. Michelin handed out stars to its restaurants. Madonna moved there. So did Roman Abramovich.

No one to denies the facts.

But when historians teach about Blair, his domestic agenda will lie in the shade of foreign affairs. Above all, he will be judged on his decision to back US President George W. Bush in the invasion of Iraq.

Your mindset matters

A note from David :

"A man who has nothing can whistle in a robber's face" (Juvenal)

I, on the other hand, have spent many, many hours teaching myself HTML, CSS, javascript and the intricacies of Movable Type - and chromasia.com is the result. So please don't steal my design or my code.

That said, if you need some assistance coding your site, please ask, and I'll do what I can to help.

Nice to know there are people with a good heart.

Marketing is not only about the voice

When Joshua Bell(the master violinist) decided to go in front of a crowd that wasn't expecting him, should he have known that he would get close to zero attention? People were ready to shed hundreds of dollars to watch him at his concert but all he made was fifty dollars on that crowded street after playing for 40 minutes!

What does this speak about branding? marketing?

ever admired someone?

  • Seth Godin for the way he marketted his purple cow.
  • Aamir Khan for being the perfectionist he is.
  • Arundathi Roy for her unusual creativity.
Chacko laid his ear against it and listened with wonder at the rumblings from within. Messages being sent from here and there. New organs getting used to each other. A new government setting up its system. Organizing the division of labour, deciding who should do what.

Rahel's toy wristwatch had the time painted on it. Ten to two. One of her ambitions was to own a watch on which she could change the time whenever she wanted to.

Then somewhere deep down in the book; much later.

Something lay burried in the ground. Under twenty three years of june rain. A small forgotten thing. Nothing that the world would miss. A child's plastic wristwatch, with time painted on it. Ten to two is said.

  • Rahul Bose for his thoughts.
  • Donal Trump for the way he fires.
  • Steve Jobs for being innovative.
  • Bomman Irani for the person he is.
(a great actor, fantastic singer, for being clever and witty, for the roles he chose)
  • Kalyan for following his passion.
  • You and Me ???
Update
  • Rajeev Masand for being crisp and to the point. I trust him to the extend that a movie rated 4 (or above) by him is a must watch.

Wednesday, April 04, 2007

the point is....

Why do I have this blog on? It's never too early or late to ask such a question. Let me cut the crap and get to things straight.
  • some day down the line I want to be able to recollect what I really had in mind. I want to be able to compare, what I am now and then.

  • I havent really been very expressive all my life, this is an attempt at improving. One of the many ways I must say.

  • (I hope) this blog helps me think. Much more than I usually do.

  • I enjoy solitude. It feels good to do things without worrying about what YOU think :)

  • I'm double minded most of the time. Writing helps.
On that note, a very ineresting article by Seth.

One of the best features of the iPod is without doubt the ability to create 'smart playlists'. If you are humane, there has to be instances where you'd like to listen to songs you love but havent heard in a while. And it can get really frustrating when your mind refuses to help you.

Enjoy!

PS : I don't understand why people crib about apple opting for an 'i' before all its' products. I think it's great marketting.

being heard

Oh there's so much noise around. And ever since I can remember I have been programmed to filter, all the ads and the offers floating around. Such a nuisance.

What do marketers do then? What are they paid for? being different? Watch Seth , see what Red5 did.

setting goals

Finally, I was able to bring my Pagerank back to 3. After about a year of 'next to zero' blogging. Organisations work much in the same way I believe. First, there are goals to kick start and then there are newer and smarter ones until one fine day they get lost.

What next? I have a faint idea, I hope it's one to last. But there are too many things running through my head. For one, I have to decide on my career and also decide how and where photography is going to fit in. Then of course all the gyan from iwillteachyoutoberich has to be put into effect. The good news is that there has been some progress. There's a new camera coming in and there has been some investments and
above all I believe there are some fresh ideas.

do you think different

I wish I were a part of the team that made this.

Someday!

all the 'bull'shitting

Read scores of articles on why MindTree's share values (which are on the highway even when the index is down dipping over 2000 points) is going to crash and burn. Experts as they call themselves say MT stocks are 'over priced' and 'stretched' and that 'It will collapse any moment'. What they dont see is that over 80% of the people investing are from the IT sector. These 'experts' have no idea of the status that we have in the IT sector.

illustrations

Art fascinates me. It's amazing how people end up in those amazing sketches.

I was angry with something and was looking for an angry face so I could make an attempt at drawing my emotions. Surprisingly there are not angry faces on the internet and the few that are supposed to be angry looked ridiculous.

But i did find something. I ended up here. It's amazing how Frank Stockton developed the idea, from scratch. Here's a first and second look at it. I hope I'll be able to do that some day. As of now I copy. It sucks. But I believe I'm learning something. I hope I am.

disbelief

some things in life are just so hard to believe. Can I say things change, people change or should it be an all the best?

let's rhyme for a bit

i dont think limericks get the popularity they deserve

A fly and a flea in a flue
Were imprisoned, so what could they do?
Said the fly, "Let us flee!"
"Let us fly!", said the flea.
So they flew through a flaw in the flue.

so many fast food corners in the country, people go to a posh restaurant and get impatient because the service is not prompt. It's meant to be delayed guys. What's all the hurry about? Spend the extra time talking to your buddy. For once stop cribbing.

i was proud.

I could have been wrong.

Last year, a law came into effect. Anyone and everyone travelling on a two wheeler has to wear a helmet. Later, towards the end of the year, there was a small amendment in the law stating that pillion riders have been exempted from the rule.

This month there was an appeal against the law.

Reasons -
1. It becomes difficult to identify terrorists and
2. Wearing helmets results in loss of hair

Too bad there wasn't a third reason!

well said

"To a great many the most infuriating thing about Hillary Clinton's candidacy does not have as much to do with misogynic bias, her actual stance on issues or anything else beyond one simple and superficial fact; her last name. It is an embarrassment to American meritocracy that only two families over the past 20 years have been able to produce personalities worthy of presidency in a nation founded on the death of dynasty. However, as a country obsessed with political correctness, it is also an embarrassment to Americans to dismiss people for shallow reasons like one's last name. This makes writing off this candidate on superficial grounds (i.e. including gender) all the less defensible, and ironically electing dynasty all the more possible."

on a ____ note.

So one whole year ahead of me... What do I plan to do with it? What do YOU plan to do with it?

Well I have been reading iwillteachyoutoberich lately. I couldnt take it all in one go! Inspiring, if there's one word.

To start off, I've planned to open a few accounts, get organised. Let's see how things work out.

PS. I'd rather read Ramit. Stop wasting you time here.

Another side to life

Who was the scariest person you met your entire life? Nah....Think again.

More than a month ago I was with my colleagues on a trip to the old age home. Technologists for Social Activity, that's what we call ourselves. We often have trips to such places - Shishu bhavan, Sri Lankan refugee residential school among others. This was my first.

His eyes were blood shot, he couldnt speak i suppose, he couldnt feed himself for sure. Dark and much heavier than me. Not someone you would look at, trust me. I'll stop with that.

So my friend and I were taking turns talking to some of them. One was a half british,he had a way of singing beautiful songs that reminded him of his life with his parents, one from England and the other from Mysore. Another was from my hometown and yet another who wouldn't stop talking.

We move on to this guy and he wouldnt acknowledge. There was a cold stare on his face. Maybe no one had ever been that close to him. The next thing we knew, he grabbed my friend by his hand. It took a moment for us to realise what had happened. We found the courage to comfort ourselves next to him. We tried talking - hindi, malayalam, tamil, english probably a word or two in kannada too and he wouldnt even blink. He'd just sit there. One half of my mind already got up from the chair. I was scared.

Another futile attempt and I decide it's time for me to leave. Then, out of no where he pulls my cheeck and feels his hands against his face. Come to think about it, I believe I've done atleast something good in life.

Still stuck up : with the same books

still thinking...

So I was riding back home from work and the road was wet. I wasnt driving exactly if you'd ask me. My mind was far far away from where I was.

I thought it was a good idea not wishing your best friend on his/her birthday. Just for the sake of making things different. You know she will be waiting for your call. She'll be thinking maybe it was because I've forgotten. That's how it starts. And then she'd start thinking maybe it was because I had slept off... or because I must have gotten into some kind of trouble. Or what if I really was too busy to remember? We havent talked...... and so it goes......

The best thing about it is how I'd plan to make up. Try to convince her that I had intended it to be that way. It'd be a let down if she isnt particular that I be the first one to wish her or that I wish her at all.

Well it hasnt exactly happened that way with me. For once I'd completely forgotten her birthday and was the last one to call her. This other time I wanted to be the first one to call and I'd do anything to hide my intentions, act as if I dont remember and then she reminds me that it's her birthday in 3 hrs. What a let down! It doesnt make a difference if I be the first or the last one to wish it seems. Implied, as long as I dont forget :)

random thoughts.....

It feels good to be the fastest one on an open road, but then I start to think about life.

There's this refuelling station near my place, where you get cheated in the worst possible way. Two guys, one at the meter and the other with the nozzle. The second tries to cover you from seeing the meter and the other resets it before you get what you paid for.
I hope money is all those bastards make all their life!!

think different?

Why is it so difficult for people to act different? We are usually comfortable with what the majority follow. The plague has come a long way. Right from the clothes we wear, the things we say, the way we say it and even the way we think. Why is it so difficult to break a convention. Maybe because it is the easier way out??

That reminds me of Robert Frost...... ' Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, and I knew not which one to take ....... And I took the one less traversed by .....'

When it comes to selecting a laptop, so many people try to dissuade you in so many ways. You r mac will never have all the codecs.... not many softwares... not compatibe .... not that ..not this ...oh yeah! not that either. But i believe my next one's gonna be a mac...I hope it comes along real soon, and I'm not gonna let you touch it!

can I ask you something?

why is it that we do all that we do.? Why, do we lead this life the way we do?

I often make this random comment in the middle of a serious conversation that makes no sense to anyone. Not even to me, and I never wait for the look.... That's the tounge inside my mouth and I thought I might as well, use it. What difference does it make if I speak sense or not. Is there a rule that says you are not allowed to speak so and so after so and so? Why doesnt the same look follow after I speak something that makes sense? Why are there rules????

come to think about it.......

Think about the number of times you take your loved ones for granted. I'm writing this as i see a Samsung, Nokia and Reliance ad in a sequence.Allthree talk about why having a colour phone with polyphonic ring tones is so much more cooler.

A couple of months back my dad bought a sleek phone with all those funky features. He never mentioned whom it was for. Yeah it was for the family alright.

I've been using my mob for about 4 yrs now and I'm telling you it looks cool. Yeah after 4 yrs! But that doesnt imply that I shouldn't have second thoughts. After all, I did have to give mine a good repair. The speaker phone wasnt functioning. I'd have lived without it, until my friend on the other end couldn't hear me anymore!!

My mom has been using this old fashioned phone for more than 2 yrs and I knew she wasnt too comfortable with it. Atleast she never used to flaunt it like most of us did. And as always she never had a prob with me taking the new one. After all it was meant for me, or so she thought.

I asked her to keep it until I left for work, which was only a few months away.

I joined for work 3 months back and I still use the black and white phone. I'm glad I never took the phone from her. Probably it wouldn't have made much of a difference to her. She would have loved me still the same. But to me, it does.
